 Airshow, 2012
Nellis AFB

We were so excited for the airshow this year. Dylan loves, loves anything flying. We live by the base and about twenty times a day, his finger is pointed at an airplane in the air. If your not looking or not showing the proper amount of enthusiasm he will point your head that direction to make sure you see it. So we thought he would be so excited to see so many helicopters and airplanes up close. Jase loves airplanes and helicopters, and has so much memorized. He will set up air craft carriers on his Mom's ironing board and reenact battles. Heather let him miss school so he could come for all three days of the airshow. So friday morning we headed down to the base and met Ben so he could give Jase a tour, and show him the HH60's up close. He let him try on some night vision goggles, and his helmet. Jace was already wearing his dog tags, and flight suit, so he looked like the real thing. Jace really likes his Uncle Ben. Then we headed down to the flight line, and were ready for several hours of watching planes. The only thing we weren't prepared for was the cold weather all weekend. The poor kids from Arizona didn't have cold weather outfits with them. It was so strange that we had such a cold weekend. Usually it's around 65 and really nice. We left a little early and watched the Thunderbirds from our house. We warmed up with hot chocolate and had some vegetable beef stew. The next day we started the day off with pumpkin pancakes, eggs, and turkey bacon. I have to mention that I make excellent pumpkin pancakes. Its mostly because I made them about twenty times in the last month, so I had them perfected. Ben liked them the first few times, and is so over pumpkin pancakes.  We had a lot of friends and family come over and started the car pooling onto the base. We have been going to the airshow so many years. We used to drive two hours, get to the speedway parking and take a bus to get onto the base to see the airshow. It's so much easier to live close by. It was another cold day. We were so lucky, this is the first year Ben didn't have to work. Last year he worked the display and had to fly. It was such a fun day, even though we were frozen. That night we went and saw the Wrangler's hockey game. Heather and I left a little early to get little boys to bed. She and her family left the next morning. Ben let Jace throw a smoke grenade and he was a pretty happy kid. We went out to breakfast for Veterans Day, and then went and watched a few hours of the airshow, just the three of us. Then to Applebee's for a Veterans Day lunch. We came home pretty tired, it was a fun few days. We were so sad to find out that that due to budget cuts there weren't going to be anymore airshows. This is the last year the Thunderbirds are going to be here. Due to budget cuts they are going to be done flying. We have such good memories of going to the Airshow with friends and family.

Dylan ended up sleeping so well, he was dressed warm. Had his headphones on, and a blanket over the stroller while he was asleep. He slept over three hours each day that we were there. He missed seeing most of the airshow. He did love it while he was awake. He had fun playing with his cousins and friends. He loves Jace and would follow him around all the time. Wish that he took such good naps at home. Guess he needs to wear his headphones at home for nap time.

Wranglers Hockey Game. I had to include the picture of Dylan with his finger in his nose. Someday he'll pay me big money to get rid of that picture.

  1. We LOVED this. It was so much fun. It's too bad that they aren't going to do it anymore. I'm glad we made it for their last run. Great shots of Jace. Ben was so nice to Jace. :) Thanks for a fun trip. LOve that picture of me and Dylan at the hockey game.
