9 Months Old

and look who's crawling!

This has been a month with so many ups and downs. Dylan has been seeing a nutritionist for a few months, and still isn't gaining very much weight. The doctor said that he was at failure to thrive. Those are some scary words. I thought that was something that babies in orphanages get, not something that a baby that is well taken care of can have.  If your baby falls below the third percentile for weight on his growth chart, or if he weighs 20 percent below the ideal weight for his height, he'll be diagnosed with "failure to thrive." Dylan lost some weight when he had pnemonia, and hasn't been on the growth chart for a few months. The failure to thrive is responsible for him not sleeping well, so when he gains some weight, he should start sleeping better. He is now on a high fat, protein, and calorie diet. Lucky that he loves going to Olive Garden. Last time we were there he had a plate of cheese, chicken soup, bread sticks, and pasta. Good choices for this kid. I'm making lots of pasta, and casseroles at home that we can freeze and always have a high fat option for him. It's amazing the things you can put cream of chicken soup in. We hope that he starts gaining weight. He's not always interested in eating, if there's anything else going on, he wants to be involved with that. When he's not feeling well, or teething he doesn't eat very well. Since he's sick so often getting him to eat has been quite a battle. Some days he doesn't stop eating, and others hardly anything. Most of the time he still takes his formula so at least he's getting those calories.

Dylan has had a busy month this month. We went to play at Grandma Becky's house, and got to stay for awhile. He doesn't sleep very well at home, and really doesn't sleep when we go anywhere else, so it makes it a little harder to travel. He does pretty good in the car, he likes when the dogs get to be in the back of the jeep so he can look at them. Since it's getting warmer outside we looked into getting summer passes to the water slide park by our house. They have a large indoor pool, and then a really fun outdoor play area. We went swimming in the inside pool, and Dylan was such a huge fan. The water felt really nice and warm, and Dylan loved to splash and splash. We tried on his life jacket, and he didn't like that as much. He couldn't move around very well. It did it's job though, it would float him on his back with his head out of the water. So I feel pretty good about taking him kayaking this summer. Then we went and played at the playground got dry, and had a picnic. I try to have snacks with me always for Dylan. Dylan started crawling this month. He's getting to be such a big kid. He's wearing size two diapers, and 3-6 month clothes. He loves crawling, and now I have a little shadow. Dylan likes to follow the dogs around too. He followed them right out the dog door, and loves that it takes him outside. I don't like that as much, but if I'm not hearing him I know where to look. Dylan likes to go outside and play at the park, and likes to go shopping. Its nice he's big enough to sit in the shopping cart. He's my little helper, and such a sweet boy.

I had to put this picture up to make fun of Heather. She used to dress to match her babies, since they are with her so much she didn't want their clothes to clash. So I dressed to match Dylan and took a picture for Heather.

 8 Months Old!

Dylan is 8 months old and getting to be so big. Well I guess not so big, since he's still wearing his 3-6 month clothes, but he can do so much now. He is rolling and tumbling all over the floor. He is scooting and can get up on all fours and rock back and forth. He's not crawling yet, but getting so close. He loves bath time, playing with his puppy Stetson, and eating.  He loves sweet potatoes, and pea's the best. He doesn't like fruit at all, or anything that's sweet. He loves to be outside, and playing on the grass is a new favorite thing. He gets so happy if he can pull some grass out of the ground and taste it. Everything goes into his mouth, even Stetson's paw, I'm surprised that Stetson let him taste him. He hasn't done it sense so I think it must not have been very good. Dylan is such a happy boy, with huge smiles. He still isn't sleeping much at all. I don't understand why he doesn't like to sleep. He goes in for a weight check every month, and the doctor is trying to figure out why he doesn't sleep very much. Dylan still gets sick really easy, and can't be around crowds of people. He still can't go to church, and when Ben's gone it means that I can't go to church. That's been hard, and I can't wait until I'll be able to go to church. Hopefully he'll be able to start nursery at 18 months. He'll love it, he likes other people and playing with toys. Dylan is such a sweet, happy guy, even when he is so sick. Hopefully during the summer he'll be a healthy boy.
